The SCA is regularly called upon to respond to consultations from the Scottish Government and its various agencies:

Electronic ID for sheep

The SCA thas responded to the Scottish Government consultation on the implementation of EU Regulation 21/2004, which will introduce the requirement for individual electronic identity tags for sheep.

Ross Montague, SCA Director commented, “the introduction of this EU Regulation has been something that was opposed vigorously in Scotland. The situation now is that, whilst some concessions were won, the Scottish Government has little choice but to implement the Regulation as of 1st January 2010.

“We hope that the Scottish Government will take note of the points we raise in the SCA response to their consultation, and that the implementation of this unnecessary red-tape will be as painless as possible for Scotland’s sheep farmers.”

The Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Bill

To help prepare our response to the recent consultation on the Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Bill, the SCA Policy Group held open meetings with members and other interested parties.

These meetings were held in Moffat and Inverness and were a great success – many thanks to those who attended.

Remember, the consultation on the W&NE bill was just the first stage of the process. There are lots of aspects to the bill, and lots of potential implications for future legislation on countrysports and land management.

We would encourage all of our members to familiarise themselves with the Scottish Governments proposals in the bill and please do feed back your thoughts to the SCA at any stage by emailing us here.
